RSNZ scholarships close on 1 August 2009

The Royal Society of NZ has set up a charitable trust, the Rutherford Foundation, to support scholarships and fellowships. One of our co-sponsors is the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, UK.
We would like you to encourage your best students graduating with science honours or masters degrees to apply for the PhD scholarship to Cambridge. The closing date is 1st August, and information may be obtained from http://www.royalsociety.org.nz/Site/rutherford/guidelines.aspx
In particular there is an opportunity for an excellent scholar to undertake a PhD at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge, in recognition of Lord Rutherford; in addition to two PhD scholarships available in any other area of science (including social sciences and engineering). We would appreciate it if you could disseminate this information among your students, thank you.
We also hope you are aware of the Rutherford Foundation’s two NZ post-doctoral fellowship opportunities ($65K p.a. plus research and travel allowances of $30k) supported by the NZ government, for two years’ research in NZ. Deadlines for applications are 30 JUNE 09, and we hope you will urgently advise your best PhD graduates (or those about to graduate) about this opportunity.
