Winter Lights 2011 will consider New Zealand’s longer-term energy future with an emphasis on the role of fossil fuels in transitioning the country to a more sustainable, low carbon economy. This is the first in a series of Thought Leadership Forums being planned and run by the National Energy Research Institute (NERI).
"NERI is doing an excellent job in promoting awareness about critical energy-related issues. This has been achieved through its role as a nonpartisan ‘think tank’ that is connecting researchers with policy makers, community groups and commercial organisations.
“The challenges we are facing as a nation right now are interrelated with issues of global proportions and have long-term and immediate impacts. These challenges cannot be treated in isolation. Issues related to health and well-being, security of energy, food and water, housing, transport and productivity are all part of that mix.
