Founding NERI Trustees Step Down: New Chair appointed

National Energy Research Institute (NERI) founding trustees, Associate Professor Janet Stephenson and Emeritus Professor Gerry Carrington are stepping down as trustees having served their maximum allowable term.  In recent years Janet has been Chair, and Gerry Treasurer, a role he has agreed to continue in an honorary capacity.

Janet will be replaced as chair by Professor Ian Wright, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Canterbury.  Ian has a geoscience research background including leading projects on carbon storage technologies when working in the UK.  In taking up the position he thanked Janet and Gerry for their role in setting NERI up and the contribution and leadership they had given between them over the last 11 years.

Remaining trustees are:

Dr Paul Bennett, Science Leader for Clean Technologies at Scion.

Associate Professor Michael Jack, co-convenor of the Otago Energy Research Centre.

Professor John Raine, Pro Vice Chancellor at Auckland University of Technology.  He is acting as a Trustee until Professor Aman Oo, new Head of Engineering, Computer & Math Sciences, can take up his position at AUT post COVID.

Hon. Professor Gary Wilson, General Manager, Strategy and Chief Scientist at GNS Science.
